Dance Visions NY presents Rising Up on the grounds of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Shelter rock, June 18, 2023. Grounded in contemporary movements for social justice and a livable, peaceful world, this program includes several new works and revisions of company favorites. The program includes original, timely and meaningful dance, music, poetry and theatre. It expresses the climate of our times and is performed in a beautiful, historical outdoor setting. Works in the concert include “Dialogue," addressing bodily autonomy, Isadora Duncan’s groundbreaking, dynamic work of strength and optimism created to the 3rd movement of Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique Sonata #6 ( circa 1916), “From a Distant Past Part 1," a new manifestation of the 1st section of our poem-based dance theater piece centered on the natural world, and a revision of a segment from our pivotal work “Through the Portals" with themes of establishing identity and finding unity through diversity. In addition are new dances created to songs in collaboration with Willow Interfaith Women’s Choir which address respect for the earth and peace. Choreography and Direction-Beth Jucovy Live music arranged and conducted by Farah Chandu. This program is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by The Huntington Arts Council, Inc.
